Washitsu is traditional Japanese room that featured with tatami mats and shoji (traditional sliding doors). It can be use for many different purposes: an everyday living space such as a living room or guest bedroom; study or meditation room. Washitsu rooms that are designed to entertain guests feature a Tokonoma - a raised platform for decorative items such as ikebana flower arrangements. In response to Queensland’s hot, humid climate, fittings such as tatami and shoji have been developed to be ‘breathable’ materials. The tatami mats makes summer more comfortable.
